Instagram to Add Portrait and Landscape Support
Instagram announced it will let users select a format when uploading their creations to the platform. The new formats include portrait and landscape photos. Instagram says ‘Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to.’
The new format option will work for both photos and videos. Speaking of videos, filters are now same for both videos and photos.
As an early adopter of the platform, my initial instinct is to be afraid of change. However, I can see how this could be a good thing. There was something unique about Instagram in the early ‘polaroid’ days, but I understand their side of wanting to please their users. Instagram says 1 in 5 pictures are not square.
What do you think about the change?
