Netflix Redesigns App For Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire

Netflix has updated and redesigned all of its video streaming apps for tablet platforms yesterday. A “more immersive” Netflix interface will debut on the latest versions of the Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, and very soon, the Apple iPad. This new app will offer a significant improvement in browsing and searching for TV shows and movies to instantly watch on tablets. Zal Bilimoria, mobile products manager at Netflix, also claimed on the company blog that the newer interface will display twice as many movies and TV shows as the previous version. Users will also be able to “swipe through rows of tiles featuring larger artwork.”
Neil Hunt, chief product officer at Netflix said in a statement that this move is in response to the popularity of tablet platforms and how Netflix members use the service.
“In the last 12 months we have seen a threefold increase in how long Netflix members are watching on their tablet.. We’re happy to debut a new user experience coinciding with the release of the nextgeneration of devices from industry leaders.”
This upgrade is to coincide with the release of two new Android operating devices, the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire. Analysts expect both tablets will perform very well this holiday season as they compete for the low-end tablet market ($250 and under). It is also notable that Kindle Fire will also enable the user to subscribe to Amazon Prime, which is already built into the device.
