Angry Birds to Sell Retail PC Version for $16
By Christopher Weaver

If you haven’t gotten enough Angry Birds on your iPhone, Android phone, Chrome browser, or Windows Phone, there will soon be a new way to access this popular title. Rovio, maker of Angry Birds, has made a deal with Focus Multimedia to produce a retail copy of their three games, Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio for the PC. The game will appear in retail stores November 25th in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand for £10.20 (about $16).

Rovio spokesperson Ville Heijari stated “Boxed retail is another way to reach more audience. Digital and mobile are still at the core of our business, but boxed retail is a good addition for taking the brand forward.” This is an interesting maneuver considering mobile and digital downloads are the future, there’s no question about it. Yes they will “reach” a bigger audience by being in stores, but with a $16 price tag it seems like this game will sell no copies. Keep in mind the game is available for free via Facebook, Chrome, Android, and Google+ and costs a mere $.99 on iOS.

All in all, I think that Rovio is grasping at straws trying to avoid the long road to obscurity. Instead of driving this game literally into the ground, they should take their talent and pursue some new titles that will capture our hearts again.
