Samsung Seeks to Ban iPhone 4S in France and Italy
>By James Lenhart
Less than a day after the “Let’s Talk iPhone” event and Samsung is already jabbing Apple’s newest member of the family — the iPhone 4S. Essentially, Samsung is saying that Apple’s iPhone 4S violates two patents related to Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) for 3G devices. The new iPhone 4S is a phone capable of working on both CDMA and GSM networks and we know of some changes that were made to the antenna of the device. It was expected to go on sale everywhere beginning on October 14th.
Samsung has filed to place an injunction on the iPhone 4S preventing it’s sale in France and Italy, but this isn’t the first time nor the last we’ll be hearing of these patent troubles between the two companies.
The infringed technology is essential to the reliable functioning of telecom networks and devices and Samsung believes that Apple’s violation as being too severe and that the iPhone 4S should be barred from sales.
Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free ride on our technology. We believe it is now necessary to take legal action to protect our innovation.
