Get Your Game Fix at even more Redbox Locations
>By Christopher Weaver
No longer just a red box filled with movies — those days are done due to the success of offering video games as well. Redbox started a trial run of video game rentals back in 2009 and is pleased enough with the outcome to fill 27,000 of their kiosks with video games.
Starting August 1st, 5,000 kiosks will have games inside of them with no set road map as when to expect the rest of the 27,000 pledged by Redbox to carry games.
Wii, PS3, and XBox 360 games are all available for $2 a night, this seems kind of pricey considering GameFly offers 1 game at a time with unlimited rentals for $14.99/month. That’s not slowing Redbox’s growth since they claim 4 million games have been rented thus far.
Interesting Redbox Facts:
- 1.5 billion movie rentals
- 4 million game rentals
- iPhone app downloaded 4.5 million times
- Android app downloaded 2 million times
- 33,000 total kiosks
