Yahoo has decided to follow in the foot steps of Bing and create a way for you to search for mobile apps within their own Yahoo app and website. Last week Microsoft’s search engine Bing announced that they would start searchable queries for apps on iOS. The nice part of this is that if you searched for the term “Facebook” it would not only return website results, but an option to either install the Facebook app, or launch it if you already had it installed.
In a similar case Yahoo has decided to allow the ability to find apps through their search as well, which can be accessed through the Yahoo app, or mobile web browser. They’ve also made it work for iOS and Android, which means they’ll be entering a market that has already been well established.
In Android’s case people seem to enjoy finding apps through Amazon and even take advantage of their daily free deals, but what can Yahoo bring to the table that will give users a reward. If users don’t get something back than the likelihood of this ever taking off is pretty far fetched.
Amazon gives rewards in the form of discounts and free daily apps. They also have a wide selection of apps that are cheaper than if you searched for them inside the Android Marketplace; so I guess the only benefit is for those that already use Yahoo as their search engine and would like to get some feedback on apps to install. If you’re eager to check it out head over here.
