Grooveshark asks Android ‘Why Can’t We Be Friends’?

by James Lenhart on April 6, 2011

A recent decision that some would call controversial has left Grooveshark asking Google why they decided to ban their app from the Android Marketplace. Some speculate it to be pressure from the RIAA and others see this as a continuation of blocking pirated content on Google’s services. The unique thing about Grooveshark is that it’s drastically cheaper than the competition, and they don’t actually license 100% of their library. Meaning you get a lot more than what you pay for, and the record industry isn’t happy about that.

The website remains open and you can actually install the Chrome app. Those who subscribed to Grooveshark VIP to use with Android should probably cancel now. Check out rdio or mog.

Tweeters Say…
I don't see why google is taking grooveshark out of android app store. How is it different that youtube legally?
Holy crap @ please tell me that your Android app will still work!!
