This Week in Gaming is going to be a weekly round-up of all upcoming games for the current week. This is also a new section added to the podcast, so make sure you either tune in or log on so you’ll know all the latest updates!

This won’t be the most eventful week in gaming, but there are a few interesting games coming out. I guess all the game developers came up with the same idea, judging by the fact that EVERY game on the list this week comes out on 1/11/11.

Here’s a quick list of games coming out for the week of January 10th thru 16th:
1.11.11 – 101-in-1 Sports Party Megamix – Wii
1.11.11 – DC Universe Online – PS3, PC
1.11.11 – Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective – DS
1.11.11 – Kingdom Hearts: Re:coded – DS
1.11.11 – Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood! – PSP
1.11.11 – Spellforce 2: Faith in Destiny – PC

A game featuring a slew of smaller mini games is being released for the Wii??? No way! But no seriously, this is a format that works for them and developers know this. If you want a bunch of quick and easy games, this might be the one for you.

DC Universe Online
Release Date: 1/11/11
Platform(s): PS3, PC
Description:
The first project out of Sony Online’s Austin studio, this action-based MMO explores the various worlds of DC Comics’ superheroes and villains. Key collaborators include comic veterans Jim Lee (who serves as the game’s Executive Creative Director), Ale Garza, Carlos D’Anda, and Scott Iwahashi, in addition to EverQuest developers, Chris Cao and Shawn Lord.
A massively-multiplayer experience, DC Universe Online brings high-energy action to the forefront with a combat system designed to deliver a fast-paced action experience with the extraordinary powers of your personally created heroes and villains at your disposal. Battle with or against their favorite DC Super Heroes and Villains including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Joker. For the very first time, players and fans will be able to enter this fabled world as an active force for good or evil.
Summary:
This game sure does look neat-o, guys! Apparently this takes place just after the last big superhero/villain battle, and a need for new good and bad guys arises. This might be a good buy if you’re looking for a MMORPG that is a little less conventional, but keep in mind there is still a monthly fee involved: $14.99 a month to be exact. A few friends of mine are getting this game on midnight, so maybe I can give some updates on it at a later date.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Release Date: 1/11/11
Platform(s): DS
Description:
Ghost Trick combines mystery, logic puzzles and the supernatural into a compelling experience on Nintendo DS. Part adventure game, part puzzle game, Ghost Trick’s gameplay will challenge player’s brains while its distinctive art style and character designs courtesy of members of Capcom’s Ace Attorney series, will please the eye.
In the game, players are transported into the spirit world of Sissel, a murder victim who has lost his memory and returned as a ghost to solve the mystery of his suspicious demise. As Sissel’s ghost it’s up to players to possess and manipulate items found in the real world to solve the captivating puzzles he encounters. Using the stylus players will need to carefully choose the path for Sissel to travel, possessing objects in order to trigger the correct item that when manipulated will alter the fate of others and begin to unravel the strange truth about who Sissel is and why he was murdered. How will you scare off the unwary assassin? There are many routes to choose from but not all of them will be obvious. It’s up to you to solve the crime but be warned, Sissel only has until dawn before he has to leave the supernatural world for good. Will you discover the truth before his time runs out?
Summary:
This looks to be a very unique game. I don’t think i’ve seen anything like this so far. As the description says, you are a murder victim, and you must solve your murder before dawn. The trailer doesn’t provide much more information, so you might just have to check this one out for yourself if you want more info!

Kingdom Hearts: Re:coded
Release Date: 1/11/11
Platform(s): DS
Description:
Jiminy Cricket is looking over the journal he used to document his first adventure with Sora when he discovers a mysterious message. He didn’t write it – so how on earth did it get there? King Mickey is determined to find out, so he and his friends decide to digitize the journal and delve into its deepest secrets. Inside this datascape dwells a second Sora who is about to embark on a grand adventure of his very own.
Summary:
Is it just me or does it seem like there are about 357 different Kingdom Hearts games? I might be off by one or two but that seems like a safe guess. Anyway, if you are a KH fan, and you have a DS, and some extra cash to spend, you’re in luck!

Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood!
Release Date: 1/11/11
Platform(s): PSP
Description:
Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood! is a sequel to Nippon Ichi Software’s popular action game starring the unlikely hero Prinny. Like the original game, Prinny 2 is a side scrolling hack and slash action game. Players control the demon penguin which are known to be the “weakest monster in the netherworld.” Your prinny can run, jump, slash, execute special skills and ride tanks and jets to battle enemies. As an extra bonus a whole new main character and story is prepared after you defeat the main game.
Summary:
I’m sorry, but this game just looks downright annoying dood. I was surprised I even made it through the video dood. This is obviously just my opinion, dood, but like, I think I’d rate the prospect of getting my teeth cleaned higher than playing this game, dood. Dood.

SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny
Release Date: 1/11/11
Platform(s): PC
Description:
This expansion to the second installment in the Spellforce series introduces a new chapter in this timeless RPG tale with many original characters returning, such as the main character Avatar, back to fulfill his destiny. New Multiplayer modes and maps offer a deeper Spellforce experience, both online and offline adding MMO-like features while preserving richness of the Spellforce universe and its gameplay. The vibrant and detailed world of Spellforce is back and promises a breathtaking story-focused campaign with several hours of high intensity gameplay, taking the player back to some of their favorite locations and entirely new dimensions.
Summary:
Apparently this is an expansion for the game “SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars”. I’ve never played SpellForce 1 or 2, so I don’t have much opinion on this expansion, but I’m sure if you’re a fan you already know what this is anyway. I couldn’t find much as far as videos for this expansion, so the following is a trailer for the original SpellForce 2 game.

Venetica
Release Date: 1/11/11
Platform(s): 360, PC, PS3
Description:
In the era of Venetica, Death walks among the living as a flesh & blood being, carrying out the deeds of an ancient council known by a few as Corpus. Each generation of the Corpus is set with the task of selecting the next predecessor of the bringer of death. Unfortunately, the most recent council had unwittingly selected a crafty necromancer who is determined on bringing death and destruction to the world.
This conniving imposter has managed to transform into an undead fiend, which no mortal man can kill. This power-crazed necromancer is hell-bent on destroying the reinstated Death and the council of Corpus. Only one person stands in his way, Scarlett, the daughter of Death.
Up to now she has known nothing of her origins, her powers and the capabilities that she possesses – now she is challenged to learn how to develop and use her powers to save her father and curse the necromancer and his henchmen to the eternal hereafter.
Summary:
If you’ve ever been playing Assassin’s Creed and thought, “It would be great if this game had crappier graphics and a hot chick as the main character,” then this game may be for you. Alright so it’s not exactly the same but that’s definitely the first thing I thought after watching the video. At least it looks better than Prinny 2…
